About
I am a collaborative producer and creative researcher based in North London. I work in partnership with communities, schools, artists, councils and organisations to create ambitious projects that work towards embedding change across contemporary visual art and art education. I am of East African (Chagga & Baganda) and Scottish heritage which plays a central role in my practice.
I am a member of the Advisory Panel for the Cultural Learning Alliance and a fellow of the RSA.
Current Projects
- The South North CIC (formerly Social Learning Practice and Development): The South North is a partnership with Vanessa Ansa, working with colleagues, Chetna Kapacee, Jade Chao and Jenny Starr. focused on arts, heritage and community practice. We produce and curate programmes, events, research and support the development of practitioners and arts organisations. Over June - December 2022 we delivered London Unseen on behalf of the Mayor of London's Commission for Diversity in the Public Realm and are now working to ensure the legacy of the London Unseen network.
Routing Diaspora Histories: The South North CIC are currently working with Mya Nwakaego Onwugbonu from the University of Roehampton and artists and educators in a project supported by the Centre of Cultural Value's Collaborate fund that explores the questions: How do diasporic communities connect with the histories of the countries and regions from which they departed, and what is the impact of this on understandings of / formations of identity and, belonging and historiographic practice more broadly?
Arts at the Farm: The South North CIC are working with the community of Broadwater Farm and Haringey Council regeneration and outreach team to develop a grassroots led arts and culture programme (pilot project August 2023 - May 2024)
- Collaborative Doctoral Partnership with Tate and Goldsmiths University: From October 2023 I will be working with the Schools & Teachers, Early Years & Families departments of Tate to undertake a PhD, funded by the AHRC, exploring the question: How can we move towards more equitable organisational and administrative systems in the arts by learning from and supporting familial (in the broadest sense) transcultural and diasporic formations of memory?
- Arts organisations, artists and schools in Haringey: Providing bid writing, development support within my home borough. Most recent successfully bids include Place Partnerships (ACE) for Haringey, Paul Hamlyn Foundation Teachers Development Fund and Transition Fund, A New Direction.
Recent /previous:
- Haringey Creates, Voices for the Future: Supporting learning and evaluation across this Paul Hamlyn Foundation Teacher CPDL funded project that explores the process of providing creative, anti-racist CPD to Year 3 teachers over two years.
- Tynemouth Road Children's Centre: Worked collaboratively with the Whittington Hospital, centre staff and the local community to develop an ongoing arts programme for this newly refurbished children's centre, housing the Whittington's children's services. Supporting the Head of Children's Services ambition to create an exciting, connected and supportive space for health and creativity. The programme commenced with the installation of a 20ft mural created by artist Hanna Benihoud in collaboration with Year 6 pupils from Earlsmead primary school, Tottenham (installed July 22).
- Tottenham Now: Together We Stand is a mural by artist Lakwena currently located at Seven Sisters station. The mural accompanied workshops, public exhibition, performance and installation as part of Tottenham Now, instigated and delivered by myself. TN aimed to catch a moment in the life of Tottenham before widespread regeneration began. The project was supported by and partnered with the Bernie Grant Arts Centre, Earlsmead Primary School, Park View Secondary School and ADA college and was funded by Haringey Council.
